Thanks for the shout out about my experiences using TOR at Slicehost. I've had a few emails back and forth with the folks there as well as people involved with EFF and TOR. It seems as if the folks at Slicehost want to do the right thing, and we're working on ways to get this done.

There are some other things I hope to set up to make it a little bit cleaner, and I'll let you know as I do it.

In my case, when I installed TOR (on Ubuntu), I also installed Privoxy. This is a proxy that connects with TOR, so people can 'torify' their web browser by pointing to my Privoxy instance.

I'm also interested in your bandwidth settings. I have a larger slice, so I'm currently making 3 GB available a day. However, that bandwidth gets used up pretty quickly. So, I've cut my RelayBandwidthRate to 50 KByes and my RelayBandWidthBursth to 100 KBytes. I'm currently thinking of cutting it back even further.

I look forward to hearing how your experiences with TOR develop.

Turns out is is just a single config change. From https://www.torproject.org/bridges ... Just ensure your torrc file contains...

SocksPort 0
Nickname BridgeExample
ORPort 443
BridgeRelay 1
PublishServerDescriptor bridge
Exitpolicy reject *:*

@Mazuhl, I believe you'd need to become a bridge to do that. This document only covers a basic relay, but you can read up about bridge mode here: https://www.torproject.org/bridges

I want to setup a Tor server for my friend in Iran to help him get online. Once up and running is there something or some config I can send to him once I've got my slice up and running?
